Elizabeth "Betty" Quinlan is a supporting character from The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius. She is the most popular girl at Lindbergh Elementary School and Nick's female counterpart, whom Jimmy has a crush on for most of the series, though she does not seem to reciprocate his feelings. She is one of Jimmy's side love-interests.

History[]

Betty first appeared in the episode Krunch Time, where she makes a brief cameo as one of the kids who beg Jimmy for candy. She was officially introduced in the episode Party at Neutron's, where she was one of the kids who attended Jimmy's party and the main reason for Jimmy to agree to have a party. She dances with Jimmy and kisses him on the cheek when she leaves his house.

Betty is briefly seen at the end of the second season episode "Operation: Rescue Jet Fusion", where Jimmy daydreams about rescuing her. She later makes her second prominent and third overall appearance in the episode Out, Darn Spotlight, as one of the main protagonists (alongside Jimmy). She proves to be a talented actress, as she gets the role of Lady Macbeth in their school play "Macbeth in Space". Initially, Nick is supposed to play Macbeth, but when he gets injured, Jimmy is forced to take over his part. Actually, Betty was Jimmy's motive for wanting to be in the play in the first place, and she seems to know this, and offers him kind encouragement. Towards the end of the episode, Betty kisses Jimmy on the lips, because they had never gotten to do so on stage and for saving the play and their lives.

Betty's last major role was in One of Us/Vanishing Act (a sequel to the previous said episode). In the first segment she was hypnotized by Grandma Taters' TV show, along with many other Retroville residents. In the second segment, she and Jimmy are once again both the protagonists. Jimmy decides to put on a magic show in order to impress her. However, Cindy's unbridled jealousy causes the magic show to go awry, and they end up stuck in another dimension. Jimmy and Betty continue to flirt, which angers Cindy to the point of furiously attacking them and blaming the whole thing on Betty and Jimmy (which Jimmy proceeds to call her out on). Betty eventually gets fed up with Jimmy's and Cindy's bickering and calmly pulls Cindy aside to have a talk with her. She tells Cindy that she knows all about their love-hate relationship. Then she adds that Cindy should just relax and stay out of her face, because she is not interested in Jimmy at all.

Additionally to all of the above, she makes cameos in The Eggpire Strikes Back, Make Room for Daddy-O, Return of the Nanobots, Send in the Clones, The Great Egg Heist, Billion Dollar Boy, Attack of the Twonkies, My Big Fat Spy Wedding, The League of Villains (but only in pictures owned by Jimmy) and the second and third Jimmy Timmy Power Hour specials.

Appearance[]

Betty is taller than the other girls in the franchise. She is a very pretty girl of Asian-American[citation needed] descent and is relatively slim with peach skin, dark brown hair, pink lips and has a beauty mark on her cheek, she usually is seen wearing a pink sleeveless dress with a white frill bow tie around her neck and a matching belt tightened around her skirt, and a pair of turquoise and white Converse All Stars.

Personality[]

Betty is usually shown to be nice and supportive towards Jimmy, who frequently tries to get her attention with his inventions and likes to flirt with her. The latter of which she often reciprocates, seemingly charmed by him. A fact that makes Cindy livid.

Betty loves the performing arts, and as such, she enjoys performing in front of an audience. This includes dancing, acting, and stage magic.

Betty is one of the very few people, who have taken note of Jimmy's and Cindy's feelings for each other. This implies a certain level of social intelligence, which is in line with her flirtatious and borderline manipulative behavior, as well as with the fact that she appears to be quite popular.

Trivia[]

  • Like Nick, Betty is implied to be slightly older than Jimmy and his friends, since she's not in any classes with them (while Nick still is), and is taller and even looks a bit older.
  • It's possible that her full name is Elizabeth.
  • Betty is first of one of Jimmy's three side love-interests to appear on the show, followed by Sagebrush Sally (Foul Bull) and April the Gorlock (Win, Lose and Kaboom!).
    • She is the only one of them, who has more than one appearance in the show.
    • Just like with Jimmy's other side love-interests Cindy does not get along well with her. (The only exception being Sally at the very end of "Foul Bull", and after she lost all interest in Jimmy.)
  • In Out, Darn Spotlight, when Nick and Betty were assigned to play the roles of MacBeth and Lady MacBeth, it is hinted that there might be some actual romantic chemistry between them.
  • Betty has some similarities to Courtney Tyler from the film:
    • A similar looking pink dress.
    • Similar personality traits.
    • A similar sounding voice.
    • Both have supporting roles in the franchise.
  • Betty is the second female character to have a beauty mark on her cheek, the first being Judy, and followed by Beautiful Gorgeous, then Elke Elkberg.
  • Betty is one of only two supporting characters to have story logical appearances rather than normal ones like most of the villains, the other is Jet Fusion.
  • Betty bears a resemblance to Beautiful Gorgeous, sharing similar hairstyles, somewhat similar facial features, and having beauty marks on the left sides of their faces.
    • This has led to theories and speculation that they might be related in some way.
  • She also has a resemblance to Chelsea, the lead singer of Graystar.
  • Betty's saxophone theme in Out, Darn Spotlight and One of Us, sounds similar to Lola Bunny's from the Looney Tunes franchise.
    • Coincidentally, both characters are voiced by Kath Soucie.
